The Year of the Blanket

Not just the blanket of snow that is thickening all over the Boston area.

January 24, 2015

Same table. February 9, 2015

And it's still coming down, with as much as another two feet over today and tonight.

No wonder my knitting visions are of blankets and oversized sweaters.

One niece is heading to college in upstate New York in the fall and since I can't knit snowshoes I thought I'd knit a blanket.  She requested her new school colors--gray and forest green--and I'll be knitting the Learn-to-Knit Afghan from Barbara Walker's book of the same name.  It consists of 63 squares covering a range of knitting from simple knit and purl to lace, cables and colorwork.  I'll be subbing in a couple of personalized squares, and working the squares in gray and white with a forest green edging.  The forest green yarn is caught in a snow drift between here and somewhere out west, but I expect it to arrive soon.

Longmire

Weatherwise the kickoff weekend to the summer was pretty dismal: cold, dark, rainy.

Knittingwise, it couldn't be better. The name of this yarn is Paradisus. That pretty much sums up the experience of knitting as I binge-watched Season 1 of Longmire.

Knit that man a scarf!

Beautiful scenery, good acting, interesting stories, cashmere, gorgeous texture stitch that can be knit by feel. Oh, and the scarf is to be a gift, so I don't feel like a selfish slug.

A scarf even Sheriff Walt could love.

Progress

Not necessarily on knitting and crocheting. That progress is occurring but not of the most exciting.

But, ah, the progress of spring.

Maybe a bit too much progress as we move rapidly from winter to summer. A bit early for the summery thunderstorm that blew through this evening.

So happy that these rhododendrons, which I didn't plant, are the palest pink and not Easter egg purple. So happy to see some rain.

Color? Work!

The sound of the snowplow is heard in the land.  Again.

Desperately seeking spring. The only spring around here comes from the grocery store, five bucks a bunch. Yes, I know that spring doesn't arrive officially for another couple of days. Yes, I know I should be a good crafting sport and tell myself that the good news is there's still plenty of time to crochet thick cowls and knit woolly sweaters. Bah, humbug!

Snow Day Replay

23 hours after yesterday.

Extended forecast calls for more knitting on the summer sweater and catch-up listening to the Craftlit podcast.
